Molly Saves the Day A Summer Story (Book): Tripp, Valerie: Molly conquers her fear of swimming underwater when she and the other campers at . The book is about a ten-year-old girl named Molly McIntire and her friends and family. The book takes place in during World War Two. Molly, her mother, her siblings, and her friends, are all at home while Molly’s father is in England taking care of wounded soldiers, since he is a : Sara Hale.
Molly’s first ideas weren’t very good by themselves, and neither was the sock-knitting idea. However, when Molly and her friends join the other girls, Molly finds a way to help them build on the idea that they already had (knitting) and take it in a better direction. Molly finds it especially hard to be a follower, as was evident in Molly Saves the Day when she envied Dorinda for being the team captain. Molly is a big schemer, often the ring leader when she and her friends make plans. Molly's mom calls her a "chatterbox," in comparison to Emily. She is prone to daydreaming and fanciful ideas.
